Police are warning people to be alert following a recent spate of bag thefts.

The local police believe that a teenager riding a mountain bike could be behind the robberies in Cheadle and Gatley among other areas.

According to Inspector Graham Dodd "the offender has been riding a pedal cycle and approached the victims from behind. He has then snatched the handbag or shopping bag out of their hands and ridden off."

Inspector Dodd is urging local people, especially women to be extra vigilant at this time.

The offender is believed to be a white teenager riding a dark coloured mountain bike.
