Phone Mast

Information

Our main purpose in life is to protect our children and keep them safe. If the mast goes up here, or anywhere in Gatley then we cannot do this. There is plenty of evidence that suggests that the emissions produced by these masts can cause cancer and leukemia as well as less threatening but debilitating headaches, sickness M.E, depression and plenty more.

The government commissioned a report called the Stewart Report which looked into mobile phones and their masts. This has many recommendations, for example:

"We recommend that for all base stations, including those with masts under 15m, permitted development rights should be revoked, and that the sitting of all new base stations should be subject to the normal planning process. This planning process should also apply when a change to an existing base station will increase the power output"

The report was not a scientific research paper and therefore could not define if there was a risk or not. However what it did say was:

"....We conclude therefore that it is not possible at present to say that exposure to RF radiation, even at levels below national guidelines, is totally without potential adverse health effects, and that the gaps in knowledge are sufficient to justify a precautionary approach."

Recently our Government pumped £7 million into research into the effects of mobile phone masts. By doing this they are accepting the Stewert Report findings and agreeing that there may be risks associated with mobile phone masts.

The USA banned masts in residential areas over 5 years ago; Australia has banned them and has emission levels significantly less than ours; New Zealand is also following the Australian example. Great Britain is years behind the rest of the world. Erection of these masts has been defeated in the past, however it is usually when the local council support their constituents. Our council is blaming everyone but themselves. They claim to be a "stronger Stockport", but in the last few weeks, listening to the banter that is going on in the media, the weakness of our elected representatives is shocking. It is in the interest of the children of Gatley that any proposal for a mast in Gatley (and there will be more) will be met with instant and massive objection. Gatley needs to come together to get rid of these threats. Remember these operators need to put 60,000 masts up in the next year and therefore next time it could be your street. Your council WILL NOT oppose it.
