Greater Manchester Police crime reduction advice.
Following these simple tips will greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim of crime.

Burglary
One in 3 burglaries happen when doors and windows are left open or unlocked, even when you are at home. Don't become a victim, don't forget to lock up!
Remember ALL alarms, locks and lights.
Alarms - set it every time you go out and at night . Locks - lock all external doors and windows. Lights - leave a light on when you go out or better still get some timer switches and set them to turn the lights on.
Robbery
Keep to well lit busy streets, keep expensive items such as mobile phones and electronic items concealed.
Vehicle Crime
Lock your doors when you are driving, don't leave anything on view in your car and park in well lit busy areas.
Personal safety
Don't take risks walking home alone at night and don't ever get into a taxi unless you know its one you have ordered. Keep to areas where there are other people around and always carry a personal attack alarm.
Bogus Callers
Remember LOCK, STOP, CHAIN and CHECK.
Lock - keep front and back doors locked. Make sure the back door is locked before you consider opening the front door. Stop - have a look outside to see who is calling at your door, do you know them? Chain - put the door chain on before opening the door. Check - Check their identify, if you are in any doubt keep them out.
Home Watch has been hailed as the largest and most successful crime prevention initiative ever and it enables members to work closely with the police to help create safer neighbourhoods. There are currently more than 15,000 members in Stockport where the schemes are labelled as Neighbourhood Watch as police encourage members to look out for each other in their neighbourhoods and not just homes.
